Parenting Plan

Evaluating Our Parenting Plan

As our kids grow and situations change, we all have to take the time to reevaluate our parenting plan. We need to ask ourselves if our current plan is working for us. If it’s not, we need to change the way we approach things.

Our kids have an innate desire to please us, but they also have an innate need for independence. This causes the normal clashes we have with our kids on a daily basis. We can choose how to handle these situations. WE CHOOSE. We don’t have to get angry, or yell, or punish in order to get results from our kids. We choose how to discipline them and we make it work.

Making the change, when we need to make one, will take some time and the transition phase can make things worse instead of better in the beginning. If we’ve fallen into the trap of yelling to get our kids to listen, (and we all know the one I’m talking about), chances are they are really going to test the waters with us while wee relearn how to guide and discipline them. Even positive change is hard to negotiate sometimes, but if we are patient and persistent, the end result will be so worth the effort!
